Building a Foundation

History In the Fall of 2005 concerned education, community, and business leaders laid the groundwork for the creation of the Monroe Public Schools Foundation. The Foundation held it first official board meeting in January of 2006. We are dedicated to supporting and addressing student, staff, and District needs as well as building long-term funding stability through gifts and endowments. The Monroe Public Schools Foundation serves as an advocate for the donor and is committed to the conscientious stewardship of each and every gift. You may wonder why public schools need our continued support. Over time, the erosion of basic education funding and the addition of many unfunded mandates have changed Washington's school funding landscape. Building a foundation for education takes all of us, and local, state, and federal dollars are not always enough to provide for the needs of our students and staff. Even with the District's careful stewardship of our tax dollars, there are many needs that can not be met. Supporting collaborative partnerships between the community and the schools can make all the difference in the world to a young person. The Monroe Public Schools Foundation seeks to be that partner. Good schools make good communities, and good communities create good schools. Donations to the Foundation help our community in numerous ways, including enriching classroom instruction, encouraging teacher initiative, attracting and retaining the best possible faculty and staff, and recognizing and rewarding efforts and achievements of Monroe students in academics, the arts, and in co-curricular activities.
