NEW FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS - SEPTEMBER 2007

The Foundation Board welcomed Ms. Tammara Oswald and Ms. Allie Carpenter to the Board of Directors in September.  Thank you to both for joining us and working with us to help our schools be as successful as they can be!

EMERGENCY NEEDS PROGRAM - MAY 2007

The Foundation's Board of Directors recently approved $2,000 dollars to support an Emergency Needs Program (ENP) in the Monroe Public Schools.  Working directly with families, select school staff can make referrals to the ENP, where several types of assistance vouchers can be accessed to help students and their families in a time of "emergency" crisis.  For additional information on how you can have your business assist in this exciting outreach program, please contact Marie Lotzgesell.  Donations to the ENP are welcome, and can be made in a variety of ways.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM - APRIL 2007

We are currently working with Main Street Books on a very exciting project that will allow community members and visitors to view and purchase locally made gifts with the proceeds benefiting the Monroe Public Schools Foundation.  Under the leadership of the Craft Advisory Council (CAC) at the Monroe Correctional Complex, incarcerated artisans are donating handcrafted wood products, jewelry, clothing, quilts, and other wonderful products that will be on sale at Main Street Books in downtown Monroe. Amanda, from Main Street Books, invites you to "come on down" and take a look at these great gift items!  100% of the profit from the sale of crafts items goes directly to support the Monroe Public Schools Foundation.

NEW FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBER - JANUARY 2007

The Foundation Board welcomed Ms. Elizabeth Skalabrin to the Board of Directors in January.  Thank you, Elizabeth, for joining us and working with us to help our schools be as successful as they can be!

FOUNDATION BOARD ACTIVE IN COMMUNITY - DECEMBER 2006

Members of the Foundation's Board of Directors recently attended the annual Monroe Chamber of Commerce auction on December 1st.  Board members were delighted to see so many of you there in support of our Chamber and our community.

STAR AWARDS KICK OFF - NOVEMBER 2006

There are so many ways to tell a staff member or teacher how much you appreciate what they've done for your child.  As the school year continues, please consider giving your child's star a Star Award.  Read more about the Foundation's Star Awards here.

STAFF GRANTS AWARDED - OCTOBER 2006

The Monroe Public Schools Foundation is pleased to announce the award of eight Staff Grants totaling over $3,000. These eight grants will fund tools to maintain an environmental trail, flash drives for library check out, technology hardware and software, staff development for a reading intervention seminar, a Buck Island field study, and equipment and books to improve student reading skills.

An independent review committee read 59 grant proposals requesting over $42,000. Grants were scored based on the nature of the proposal, the funds available or matched, and the population served. Grants were awarded to elementary schools, middle schools, the high school, and Leaders in Learning.

Given the level of interest and the evident need, the Monroe Public Schools Foundation hopes to increase the amount of funds available for Staff Grants in the future.  You can help by donating now!
